Our First Christmas as a Family!

Christmas 2010 was a very special Christmas for our home. It was our first Christmas with our baby girl. She is only 3 months old and unable to open up gifts yet, but it was still real exciting. Just having one more person in our home Christmas morning is enough excitement for us!

This year we've done some things a little different. We made some decisions and we are pretty satisfied with it. This year the gifts under our tree are a little slim. In fact, some of our gifts were used items that were in excellent condition and at a more affordable price for us. Now don't get me wrong, we have been very blessed. However, we placed getting out of debt above splurging and possibly going overboard with Christmas spending. (That was really hard.) Kevin's work blessed him with a wonderful Christmas bonus, an unexpected check and his side jobs have been calling for help. Because of all that we paid some big things off! We were able to still buy gifts for all our family and friends and were able to bless others. I think we did pretty good! Another decision we made was for me to stay home with Katelyn. That is a big enough Christmas gift for me! Katelyn may not understand the sacrifice, but we will make sure she understands just how good God is! I could go on and on about the blessings He has given us just this year alone, but I will save that for another time! I have no shame telling what all God has done for us. In fact, I hope that in telling what God has done and giving Him praise that you would be encouraged and strengthened in your faith.

One thing that I've made it a point to be a little tradition for us is before any gifts are opened we read about what we are really celebrating. Luke Chapter 2 is the text of our choice. This year was Katelyn's first year and first time of hearing the real Christmas story. We read it from one of her keepsake Bibles! How special that was to read it to her.

I am so grateful for the Christmas we had! There were lots of smiles. The Lord blessed us indeed, when He gave us Katelyn Joy! Hope you had a Merry Christmas. Will be blogging about the rest of our Christmas soon.
